ABS-CBN is airing a full-blown coverage of the said event, complete with stage lights, sponsors, not to mention the viewership itll claim from idiots who might tune in and miss the entire point of Earth Hour. It's like the Mardi Gras before Lent.

Of course, the coverage begins in Mall of Asia, the epitome of Philippine consumerism. Funny that it had to be SM, with its ginormous, fully-airconditioned boxed eyesores, had to be the main sponsor.

Despite this, I'm joining. Everything except a fan and this pc is turned off, and to be OC, i turned off some of the programs that make my CPU hum like a car. So what did you do?

My dream vacation house would be something like Thomas Crown's beach house. Up on a hill, and a few minutes drive from the beach. This place comes in really close. I won't like leaving the country coz all of my friends are here. hehe

I'v never seen shops going on sale nonstop since January.

Jolibee offering a PHP39.00 meal, even a tipid card.

Then today, the cab driver told me that it's his first time not bringing a single passenger to a motel. We're in bad times, people.

At least it's not that bad, not yet at least. The traffic was horrible as expected, and despite the impending global slowdown, Filipinos managed to spread the love this valentines.

Oh there was a chopper that flew rediculously low, throwing rose petals on High Street. Pretty swell if you ask me.

"There will be 10 long holidays in 2009...

...The observance of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) on April 9 (Thursday) was moved to the nearest Monday which is April 6.

This will be followed by the Easter holidays from April 9 (Maundy Thursday) until April 12 (Easter Sunday).

The other regular holidays are:

Wait, diba golf course to. How come I don't see any golf clubs in the picture. There are like 10 people in the middle of a golf course, and not a single person raised a club? Not even someone throwing golfballs at each other?

All we have, according to the mayor's side, is a baseball bat (coz it's a golf course, duh), a really creepy guy in red (coz hes burly! and hes wearing red! that's the color of Satan himself!), and the Mrs. most likely carrying a Katana.

-- Nope not for the time being. I've been wanting to teach though, just that Loyola campus is so damn far. Oh, also saw the new applicant brochure. It's.. meh. sino ad agency nyo? corny eh.

6. I will live healthier, except for the smoking part. Gym, perhaps?

While beating the 56-yr old and his kid after a seemingly shallow argument over who goes first in a golf course, the Mayor repeatedly shouted "hindi mo ba ako kilala?" Who the hell knows him, anyways?

He's Nasser Pangandaman Jr., apparently the mayor of Masiu, Lanao del Sur (i had to google it to make sure inquirer wasnt making it up. great it's on wikipedia. it exists), and the son of the DAR chief. So yeah. Ring a bell? He should wear a nametag next time, perhaps a map could help, too.

Ok, this is not the point. I'm not saying that you can rape a woman in broad daylight if you become mayor of a bigger city. It's just sad that this kind of male agressiveness still permeates in this century. Tell that to the frats in law school. Hi guys.

It's all in the head. It's nice to be admired and be recognized as a political figure (or an important person, at least), just don't demand it. I mean come on, a 14-yr old? You sissy.

This is also one reason why im reluctant to vote. It's hard to vote for someone who will think that he/she has been chosen by the people to rule the country their way. And given the fluidity of power in this nation, I'm sure that no matter how good the politician is, someone, either by consanguinity (yes i finally used the word. thanks Fr. Dacanay) or just a contact in Facebook, will be so tempted to pull strings should the need arise (like cutting in line in KFC or something). It never worked that way, and it needs a miracle to put an end to this kind of thinking.

So there. Let the blog bashing commence. Sana may internet sa Masiu para mabasa niya.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Joselito Atienza (even if you lost by a landslide last election, it really pays to be a suckup to Gloria) was criticized by some senators for failing to attend the Senate budget deliberations last week because he left for the Pacquiao-De la Hoya match in Las Vegas.

He defended his trip by saying: "Mahalaga iyung budget at iyan naman ay naniniwala akong handing-handa naman ang aking departmento na ipagtanggol iyung budget naming. Makati City had a full-page ad today on how pretty the city is now, btw. It's also his birthday, too. So where's the party? At the city hall, where else? Such perfect timing, and what an equally perfect way to say how self-serving you are. This is a new level of legally misusing city funds. Bravo.

Look, I have no doubt that Makati is the best city in the country. Then again, if there is someone to thank, it should be the Ayalas, not him.

And btw, bumabaha parin Buendia. May election bid ka pang nalalaman diyan.

Exit Bush, enter Obama. Good riddance, at that.

His speech absolutely blew me away. Call me emotional, but it made me all teary-eyed. It's a bit unusual for someone thousands of miles away would end up so moved by him, and neither did I expect the whole world celebrating (besides Obama, Japan) his victory. He's really going to be something. Well, come to think of it, it can't get any worse now can it? Thanks to him, the dems now have majority shares in both houses. So even if he makes the dumbest law (say, the kind Lito Lapid authored), it's gonna get passed. Nahh, he wouldn't do that, coz he's gonna rock hard. It's time to emulate America once again.

Olympics Wrapup

After a dazzling reminder that the Chinese did invent fireworks and acrobatics, the Beijing Olympiad is finally over. Michael Phelps is practically a country now. With 8 Golds, he's actually better than France and Italy.

What's really sad is our contingent. Out of 90 million, our country managed to come up with only 15 athletes, all of them failing to gain any tangible recognition (some guy got a gold in a Wushu exhibition, but doesnt count. He's just showing off!). The smaller, more unknown countries are better than us, Togo for one. Even Afghanistan had a bronze.. in Taekwondo! Where in war-torn Afghanistan did he practice?? Hay.

Anyways, the pressure's on London now. Let's see what they'll come up with.

So it's finally here, unsmuggled!

There wasn't so much hype to this, probably because Globe's selling it for more or less 40k, depending on the 8gb or 16gb variant. Who'd buy that, huh? Well apparently people still lined up to buy one. They don't seem to have relatives abroad who can buy the same unit at $200.

The launch party looked nice, though. Set at Exchange Plaza (that giant roof near the corner of ayala and paseo), the location itself surely generated hype around the business district. I was laughing at the ads posted on the makeshift walls though. It said: "be one of the first in the country to own one", then I heard people laughing in Greenhills. Then the other ad said: "You're Invited", posted on 10-foot high walls that blocked everything viewable for passersby. The only part you can look at was the entrance, except it was blocked off by bouncers. Ha what. Learn how not to mock and condescend people, Globe.
